

When working on an object I combine traditional skills with
modern conservation techniques. I consider it very
important that an object does not look ‘restored’ but rather
as if it has been well-cared for over the years.
Nowadays it is not uncommon to remove the finish of an
object by sanding or stripping it. In this way the original
patina (and character) is lost forever and the value of the
object is reduced. I see stripping as a very last resort.
Whenever possible I try to preserve an old surface and not
to alter the original patina.
